The American Association for the Advancement of Science has announced the finalists for their 2013 book awards, and How To Raise Monarch Butterflies: A Step-by-Step Guide for Kids is up for the Hands-on Science Award. This is awarded to a book which “promotes science literacy by showcasing the importance of good science writing that promotes inquiry and hands-on learning.” You can see the full judging criteria and list of nominees at the link above.

Founded in 1848, AAAS serves some 261 affiliated societies and academies of science, serving 10 million individuals. Their publication – Science – has the largest paid circulation of any peer-reviewed general science journal in the world, with an estimated total readership of one million.
